Collaborative Artist Bio
Toronto/Minden Hills–based artists Bernadette Badali and Craig Beal collaborate through a shared exploration of nature, texture, and material process. Graduates of the Ontario College of Art, their combined backgrounds in mixed media, painting, photography, and new media inform an experimental and tactile approach to artmaking. Their work has been exhibited widely in Toronto and is held in private collections throughout Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Artists’ statement
Our collaborative work merges two distinct artistic approaches into a single visual dialogue, focusing on the shared nucleus of the project rather than our individual needs.
Bernadette’s mixed media practice draws on a lifelong connection to nature and texture, using paint, plaster, paper, and fabric to explore organic forms, heritage, and resilience. Craig explores natural processes through paint—guiding flow, sediment, and movement to create paintscapes that reveal beauty emerging from interaction and change.
Together, our process is a shared exploration of new possibilities, where two creative voices converge to create a cohesive, unified vision.
“The best moments in our lives are not the passive, receptive, relaxed times… The best moments usually occur if a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile.”
~ Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, 1990.
