Artist Bio: Nancy L. Moore

Born in Ajax, Ontario I grew up in a household where art and creativity were always encouraged. I credit my late father, Wayne Moore, an artist who loved nature, with giving me a solid foundation on which to build. Truth be told, both of my parents were quite creative and always encouraged being artistic; lucky for me.

I graduated from George Brown (Toronto) Graphic Design Program and since 1997, I’ve been the co-owner of Seastar Images Inc. a graphics/signage company that services the GTA and surrounding area. Although I continue to be involved in the graphics industry, my real passion has, and always will be, fine art.

I further my artistic development by attending a variety of workshops and classes. I feel one never knows what path one’s artistic future might take, so it’s important to learn new skills.

As an artist, I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to paint and draw without boundaries. While i enjoy experimenting with different mediums, I have been drawn to working in acrylics lately. My style is largely experimental, with an emphasis on abstracting nature and landscapes. I never set out to replicate an image, but instead, strive to convey a mood or evoke an emotion using loose lines, rich textures and bold colours.

I feel it’s important to contribute to the artistic community. For the past six years, I have donated paintings for the annual Drawing for Art Fundraiser, at the Station Gallery in Whtby, Ontario. I have donated artwork to the Art of Giving charity auction organized by United Way and York Region to benefit those in need in 2017 and 2020. I was also invited to be the guest feature artist and I donated artwork for the 32nd Annual Sportsman Night run by the Cobourg Rotary Club in February 2017.

I was proud to donate my first Remembrance Day poppy print, The Poignance of Poppies, for my good friend’s FUNdation, @scgfundation, who donated the proceeds to those who served our country. Prints are still available.

I enjoy showing across southern Ontario including galleries in Cobourg, Port Perry, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Collingwood, London and, of course, Toronto.

ARTIST STATEMENT

“When reflecting back on my lifelong artistic journey I can see how the body of my work has evolved organically. A common thread of relationship and identity connects the pieces together. My works are sometimes situational, often inspired by personal ruminations over familial stories or reclamation of traditional knowledge, but always rooted in the blood memory of my Indigenous culture.”

Artist Bio: Janet Moore

Janet Moore is a Rocky Mountain artist living in Fernie, British Columbia. An avid hiker, biker, and snowboarder, Janet draws direct inspiration from the landscapes she inhabits and explores. These experiences are often reflected in her vibrant, expressive paintings, which capture both the energy of place and a personal sense of connection to the natural world.

Not always confined to the studio, Janet frequently works en plein air, creating loose, impressionistic responses to the landscape. This approach allows her to observe light, colour, and atmosphere firsthand, resulting in work that feels immediate, intuitive, and emotionally resonant.

I was born and raised in Ontario and have maintained a lifelong interest in art and design. Growing up surrounded by original paintings and drawings—many created by my great-grandfather and father, both artists—deeply influenced my creative path. I was fortunate to have parents who encouraged creativity, ensuring there was never a shortage of art supplies in our home.

Artist Statement

I graduated from George Brown College in Toronto with a diploma in Graphic Design, where I developed a strong foundation in fine art disciplines such as life drawing. With a growing interest in typography, I continued my studies in the Graphic Sign Design program, completing an additional two years focused on the art of hand lettering and earning a second diploma.

Recently, I returned to Fernie BC after spending three years on Vancouver Island and one year in Canmore, Alberta. While I deeply missed the Rocky Mountains during my time on the coast, Vancouver Island became an integral part of my artistic development, allowing me to paint outdoors year-round and significantly refine my process and style.

Now happily settled back in Fernie, I live near Mt. Fernie Provincial Park, which provides endless inspiration.
