Artist Statement
My artwork is an expression of the need to take time for contemplation; to sit in the quiet moments as a response to the intensity of the world around us. Just as my figures are blended into textured backgrounds, so too are we all inseparable from our contexts. This process reflects my belief that we are all connected, with shared responsibilities for one another and for our environment. I am intrigued by the many stories that make up who we are, represented by the layers of materials into which each figure is embedded. My work places figures within their personal landscapes, whether they are recognizable or abstracted spaces.
Using a mix of found and made papers, acrylics, charcoal and inks, my work transforms chaotic elements, into calm, reflective art.
I am a Toronto based artist painting now for over 20 years, full-time since 2018 when I retired from a career in medicine. How fortunate I am to have the opportunity to experience two careers for which I hold such passion!
