ARTIST BIO

Béatrice Eberhard

Béatrice Eberhard grew up in Switzerland and studied fine art ceramics at sfg Bern. In 2000 she immigrated to Canada. Life asked her to become many different things, which is reflected in her work. She is fascinated with connecting patterns that suddenly paint a new picture. She uses fabric more like she would use paint. The delicate and fragile process of layering small pieces together is important to the meaning of the work.Transforming material into something new fascinates her.

Her work started to change in the lockdown due to very limited supplies. She found a way to create smaller scaled surfaces. An interplay between thread, paper, and the patterns created with fonts that gives the artwork a painterly quality. Paper with different fonts and pages of colorful magazines are hand cut into stripes, sandwiched between textiles, and quilted together row by row. The Interplay between thread, paper, patterns, and fonts gives the artwork a painterly quality. The transformed material becomes something new and unexpected.

She embraced that even more in her newest work. The small imaginary landscapes became windows of escape. A place where your mind can soar free.

Art is her passion and no matter how difficult situations are, she will always find a way to create.
